George Gershwin September 26, - July 11, born under the name Jacob Gershovitz was a famous composer, pianist and conductor. His family were Jews from Russia, but he was born in America. Already at the tender age of 14 and with comparatively little teaching, he mastered piano playing extremely well. His first own compositions were not long in coming.
